Placing your foot on a flat surface (i.e., in a flexible-soled shoe, boot, or sandal that does not possess heel elevation or toe spring) and spreading out your toes helps enable natural arch support and helps build a strong, healthy foot arch. While taping your feet may provide a temporary solution, there are other non-invasive methods that can help strengthen your foot arches and address flat feet over time. It does take a little bit of time to become proficient at this method, especially if you’re performing it on yourself, but most people find this to be a helpful approach to reduce arch and/or heel pain.
